SERIAL sex offender Clinton Townsend was told he had stuck “two fingers up to the law” by a judge who jailed him for five years yesterday.

The former boxer, 20, of Field Assarts, near Witney, was convicted of twice having sex with a 15-year-old girl and admitted repeatedly breaching a sex offenders’ prevention order.

He was sentenced following a week-long trial, after which he was found guilty of four counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child and one of common assault.

Judge Mary Jane Mowat said hearing the evidence had convinced her of Townsend’s “arrogance, immaturity, lack of remorse, high level of sexual preoccupation, and inability to recognise his behaviour was sex offending, which was condoned by his family”.

Michael Roques, prosecuting, said Townsend also admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice.

And he said Townsend had breached a suspended sentence made in January last year when he was convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old girl and making 89 indecent images of children.

Peter Du Feu, defending, said Townsend had lost 5,000 Facebook friends when the police closed down his account following his earlier conviction.

Mr Du Feu said this led to a “pathetic” attempt to restore his social status by opening a new account under the name ‘Clint the Boy’.

He added: “He was bitter and angry about the previous sexual offences prevention order.

“He was known locally and vilified, he was known as a paedophile in his local community and he simply couldn’t cope with it.”

In addition to the jail term, Townsend was made subject to a new sexual offences prevention order.
