BIKES are practical, healthy and environmental but they are not usually considered romantic.

Yet for the women of Beryl’s Night, they provided some loved-up inspiration for their hand-made Valentine’s Day cards.

Beryl’s Night is a regular evening hosted at the Broken Spoke Bike Co-op on Pembroke Street in Oxford for women who are interested in bikes.

Rachel Antill is a regular attendee and said: “I like going to the Beryl’s Night because I love bikes but it is very male-dominated and it can be quite intimidating going in when they know every technical term and you don’t.

“The ladies’ night is a bit more relaxed and there’s more support. People don’t expect you to know everything.”

They might not want to sit talking about bikes with men – but they have not forgotten them altogether.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the women have turned their hands to bike-themed cards for partners.

Mrs Antill, who lives in Cutteslowe and made her card for her husband Jon, said: “I like that there’s always something crafty going on, like how to make wallets out of old inner tubes, or those Valentine’s Day cards. Even if there’s nothing like that, there’s a film going on or something.”
