AN electricity firm today said it does not know when works in Botley Road, Oxford will finish.

Motorists have been delayed by digging to fix a cable fault at the junction with Ferry Hinksey Road, where temporary traffic lights are in place.

Scottish and Southern Energy spokesman Duncan MacDonald said works had finished on one side of the road, which will be resurfaced on Monday, but work was continuing on the other side.

The fault saw 70 homes lose power, which has now been restored. The firm said on Friday works could extend into next week.

He said he could not give an exact finish date but added: “We are working until 9pm or 10pm today and tomorrow.

“We don’t want to work through the night as we have to bear local residents in mind with the noise.

“We don’t know how long it will take. Our priority is to get it finished as soon as we can.”
