A NEW interactive walking tour will link Oxfordshire’s ancient white horse with Wiltshire’s eight hillside horses.

It will see the 110m-long chalk Uffington White Horse, near Wantage, included in a five-day walking route called The White Horse Trail.

The trail was set up last year by artists Ali Pretty and Richard White, as an interactive guide for walkers.

Smaller circular trails of the Uffington White Horse itself will also be created.

When the project is finished the routes can be downloaded from thewebsite whitehorsewalk.co.uk or as an app.

While walking the routes people will be able to view pieces of art or listen to audio inspired by the white horse.

It also brings up details about nearby pubs, hotels, and shops to boost tourism.

Mr White, backed by Creative Wiltshire, said: “The Uffington White Horse is such an iconic image and such a beautiful thing – you look at it in awe.

“To be connecting 21st-century technology with the Bronze Age is magic, I’m really excited about it.”

Residents are invited to join Mr White and Ms Pretty on a circular trail around the Uffington White Horse on Saturday, January 25, and Sunday, January 26, and to get involved in the project.

They can either share their stories about the Uffington horse for audio to be included, or ideas for the scheme.

Creative Wiltshire is expanding the project after being granted extra funding from the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Oxfordshire’s world-famous Bronze Age white horse is also surrounded by an Iron Age hillfort known as Uffington Castle – the highest point in Oxfordshire.
