EVERYTHING in this picture, including the pair of brand new £55 Ikea chairs, coffee table and cups, was taken away free of charge at a swap shop.

Just 20 people turned up to Low Carbon Barton’s free-cycle event at Barton Neighbourhood Centre on Saturday morning.

But those that did grabbed themselves some bargains.

Project co-ordinator Rachael Peace, 35, who lives in Barton, said: “Good things go fast, but lots of stuff comes in every month, there is always something good.

“We get brand new clothes, furniture, books and toys – things that people actually want.”

The etiquette of the swap shop is if you bring something along, you can take something away.

The Barton shop has been running for two years, on the first Saturday of each month.

The next one will be held at the centre on February 1 from 10am to 11.30am.

Ms Peace added: “The things we have are always seasonal, and February will be the time for people to get rid of unwanted Christmas presents.” Anyone who would like to make a donation before then can call Ms Peace on 07767 773150.
