A MAN was chased down a residential street and punched in the face on New Year’s Day.

The 24-year-old victim was walking in West Street, Banbury, in the direction of Middleton Road at about 8.15am when he was chased by another man.

The victim fell over, after which the offender, who had a glass in his hand, punched him in the face a number of times.

He was treated for cuts and a puncture wound to his face at the town’s Horton General Hospital.

The offender is white, about 6ft tall, with light mousey-coloured hair, clean shaven and about 18 years old. He was wearing a tracksuit and dark jacket.

Investigating officer Pc Matthew Oaten said: “The incident occurred in a residential street, so I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact police.

“I would also urge those members of the public who stopped to help the victim to contact the police.”

If you have any information about the incident call Pc Oaten via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
