KIDLINGTON’S Post Office could move and have longer opening hours under new plans.

The Post Office wants to move the service from Oxford Road to the nearby Co-op in High Street.

The four Post Office counters would be open the same times, Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm.

But the service would open for longer on Saturday – until 5.30pm, instead of the current 12.30pm.

It would remain closed on Sunday.

However, most Post Office services will also be available at Co-op counters.

These are 7am to 10pm Monday and Tuesday, 9am to 10pm Wednesday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.

The firm said the move – which is subject to consultation – is part of a nationwide modernisation programme.

It would be made with the current sub-postmaster’s agreement, officials say.

Regional network manager Will Russell said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Kidlington and we are confident that the new branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches.

“This investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
