YOUNG people at Helen and Douglas House Hospice for children and young people in Oxford have received hundreds of Christmas presents from a Didcot teenager.

Courtney Hughes, of Great Western Drive, has collected more than 650 gifts in her second year of bringing presents to those who can’t spend the festive season at home.

The 15-year-old started Charity Secret Santa last year after her great-grandmother had to spend Christmas in hospital, and said this time around she has received more than twice as many presents.

So yesterday the teenager and her parents took hundreds of toys, games and other gifts to the hospice in Magdalen Road, East Oxford. The Didcot Girls School student said: “It is fun every time I do it.

“I just want to try and bring Christmas to some of the people who don’t get it.”
