Spending more than £4m on a new school is news we all must welcome.

At a time when budgets are tight, it is also a surprise.

Development is underway on a new school for autistic youngsters in the county.

It will be the first such facility in Oxfordshire and put an end for some to long, difficult journeys out of the county for proper help.

It is remarkable that the county does not have such a school already.

We can only hope its opening next year makes things better for those in the county who will need its support.
