SIX people were arrested after a series of raids across the country – including in Oxford – relating to several robberies.

Thames Valley Police carried out the raids on Tuesday morning working with the Metropolitan Police Service and the Flying Squad.

At around 6.30am, officers carried out warrants at 16 addresses under the Theft Act in Lambeth, Croydon, Hillingdon, Uxbridge and Oxford.

Those arrested are suspected of being members of a gang who planned and committed a series of at least seven cash in transit robberies – including one at the Natwest in Cowley in April. They are also suspected of carrying out a robbery at Lloyds Bank in Stokenchurch in Buckinghamshire on Monday, December 9.

The robberies are said to have taken place between October 2012 and November this year on security vans in Pinner, Hayes, Tulse Hill and Oxford. Police officers arrested five men and one woman, aged in their 30s, who were all taken into custody at a west London police station.

A quantity of cash has been recovered.

Thames Valley Police issued the information late on Tuesday night, but were unable yesterday to offer an update on the arrests.
