WE all grieve in different ways and for Beth Britton blogging about her experiences helped her come to terms with her father’s death.
Her family was struck by one of the quiet tragedies of modern life when her dad Ray was diagnosed with dementia in 2003.
Sadly, he died last year at the age of 85. A month after his death, Miss Britton, who spent a number of years caring for her father, decided to channel her grief by sharing her advice with others. Since then, she has campaigned on issues surrounding the disease, which is expected to affect 135 million people by 2050. She wants to raise awareness of the illness and get better support for carers.
While funding pledges are welcomed, such as the announcement made last week that money for Oxford will be doubled to as much as £20m, we also need more people like Miss Britton.
Despite going through an immensely difficult time she has created something positive; a legacy that has touched others going through similar experiences.
Let’s hope that more people will be inspired by Miss Britton and that she is joined by others in the quest to raise awareness of this terrible disease.
