CHARITY champion Ray Collins yesterday helped spread the festive spirit by delivering food hampers to the needy of Wantage.

More than 110 hampers have been prepared by Mr Collins’ collections, Wantage Food Bank and Wantage Community Church.

And about 15 of them were delivered by the 44-year-old and volunteers yesterday.

Mr Collins said: “We have got 110 hampers to help people in need and struggling at Christmas.

“Christmas is when people feel it the most – the family we have been to have six children.

“It is all about helping people at a time where a lot of us take for granted what we have.”

He said homes were nominated for the hampers by the town’s children’s centre, Independent Advice Centre, and food bank.

Mr Collins, of Springfield Road, Wantage, said the hampers brought a lot of happiness.

He said: “It was brilliant, the kids love them. It’s been fantastic.

“We have seen lots of smiling faces.”
