AN OXFORD bank clerk has appeared at the Old Bailey accused of playing a part in a £2m fraud.

Tai Hulbert-Thomas, from Cutteslowe, is accused of plotting bogus transfers using stolen log-in details while working at the Lloyds Banking Group.

The alleged conspiracy, totalling £2,036,500, took place from July to September last year, the court was told on Friday.

Hulbert-Thomas is said to have made fraudulent payments totalling £627,500 and is charged with two counts of fraud by abuse of position involving installing a device to harvest employee log-in details and make fraudulent transfers.

The 27-year-old, of Carlton Road, is accused alongside Neil Bautista, and Joe Mariathas, both 22, and Mawli Thurairajah, 30.

Mariathas, of Stonewall, East Ham, is charged with fraud by abuse of position by installing a device on a computer to harvest the secure log-in details of his fellow employees. He has pleaded guilty to another charge of conspiracy to defraud by making fraudulent payments totalling £804,000.

Bautista, of Northumberland Road, Maidenhead, is accused of making fraudulent payments in the total of £605,000 and of allowing another person to install a device on the bank's computer.

Thurairajah, of Moelyn Mews, Harrow, denies a single charge of making fraudulent payments totalling £804,000.

The four men will stand trial in April.
