People convicted of offences at Oxford Magistrates' Court recently:

  • Joshua Ward, 18, of Mably Grove, Grove, near Wantage, admitted possessing ketamine, a Class C drug, in Wantage on September 15. Fined £75 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  • James Wells, 42, of Lowell Place, Witney, admitted stealing food worth £192.04 from Sainsbury’s in Witney on October 21. Also admitted committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge made on September 20 by Oxford Magistrates’ Court for two counts of theft. Community order made with one-month curfew requirement and told to pay a £60 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  • Sarah Gibbs, 29, of The Causeway, Bicester, admitted causing criminal damage to a window pane in The Causeway, Bicester, on August 25. Given a six-month conditional discharge and told to pay a £15 victims’ surcharge.
  • Mehmet Akcal, 53, of Besselsleigh Road, Wootton, near Abingdon, admitted failing to give information as to the identity of a driver to police between May 8 and June 5 in Banbury. Fined £385 and told to pay a £38 victims’ surcharge and £80 costs. Given six points on driving licence.
  • Sheldon Cadogan, 18, of Poulton Place, Oxford, admitted stealing a handbag containing an Apple iPhone, bank cards and vouchers in Blackbird Leys on April 14. Also admitted possessing cannabis, a Class B drug, in Pegasus Road, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, on September 16. Community order made with eight-day activity requirement and 80 hours of unpaid work. Told to pay a £60 victims’ surcharge and £40 costs.
  • James McCormack, 36, of Gaisford Road, Cowley, Oxford, admitted possessing 1.35g of ketamine, a Class C drug, in Keble Road, Oxford, on August 21. Also admitted committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge made on March 21 by Oxford Magistrates’ Court for possessing ketamine. Community order made with six-month drug rehabilitation requirement and seven-month supervision requirement.
  • Robert Powell, 32, of Van Diemans Road, Thame, admitted causing criminal damage worth £1,987.14 to a car bonnet in Van Diemans Road, Thame, on June 25. Also admitted committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge made on October 15 by Oxford Magistrates’ Court for two counts of theft. Fined £150 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £40 costs.
  • Thomas Gentry, 33, of Oxford Hill, Witney, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress on October 25 in Church Lane, Witney. Fined £50 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £30 costs.
  • Deborah Cuddy, 20, of Van Diemans Lane, Oxford, admitted assault by beating at the City Arms pub in Cowley Road, Oxford, on October 23. Also admitted assaulting and resisting a police constable in the execution of their duty, causing £100 worth of criminal damage to a City Arms pub sign, and using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress in Cowley on the same date. Community order made with 160-hour unpaid work requirement and told to pay £250 compensation, a £60 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  • Martin Lazenby, 40, of no fixed address, admitted stealing two cans of gin and tonic worth £4.38 from Marks and Spencer in Oxford railway station, Botley Road, Oxford, on November 7. Also admitted committing a further offence while subject to a conditional discharge made on June 11 by Oxford Magistrates’ Court for theft. Fined £80 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge.
  • Nigel Pennington-Fisher, 53, of Speedwell Street, Oxford, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence on November 7. Given a 16-week prison sentence because a high level of violence was used against a victim doing a public service. Two knives to be forfeited and destroyed.
  • Peter Ayres, 53, of Iffley Road, Oxford, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause fear of or provoke unlawful violence on June 27 in Bonn Square, Oxford. Given a 12-week prison sentence because threats were made with a weapon in his hand, the victim was vulnerable, and he had previous convictions.
  • Patrick Kinyera, 19, of Field Avenue, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, admitted assault at Oxford Railway Station, in Botley Road, on June 9. Also admitted failing to surrender to Oxford Magistrates’ Court on October 18. Committed to a young offenders institution for 12 weeks because of high level of violence and use of a weapon.
  • Mark Craven, 29, of David Walter Close, Oxford, admitted harassment without violence between September 10 and October 22 in Thorny Leys, Witney, by getting another to send text messages on his behalf. Restraining order made and fined £120. Told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  • Habiba Gudal, 47, of Gibbs Crescent, Oxford, admitted drink driving in New Road, Oxford, on October 4. Had 165mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, above the legal limit of 80mg. Given a 16-month driving ban and fined £130. Told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs.
  • Angela Jones, 46, of Barns Road, Oxford, admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour within the hearing or sigh of someone likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress. Fined £75 and told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £30 costs.
  • Alun O’Donohue, 32, of Saxton Road, Abingdon, admitted drink driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence in Stratton Way, Abingdon, on July 10. Had 73 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath, above the legal limit of 35 micrograms. Given a four-year driving ban and fined £150. Told to pay a £20 victims’ surcharge and £75 costs.
  • Qasim Hussain, 28, of Hurst Street, Oxford, admitted stealing a boxed perfume set worth £39.50 from The Perfume Shop, in The Clarendon Centre, Cornmarket Street, Oxford, on October 24. Community order made with six-week curfew requirement.
  • Raymond Clark, 53, of Medhurst Way, Littlemore, Oxford, admitted using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress in London Road, Headington, on October 9. Given a 12-month conditional discharge and told to pay a £15 victims’ surcharge and £20 costs.
