‘Tolkien-type’ novelist signs latest fantasy
10:10am Saturday 2nd November 2013 in News
AN AUTHOR whose work has been compared to JRR Tolkien held a book signing at one of the writer’s favourite watering holes.
Ian Johnson, from North Yorkshire, signed copies of his debut novel The Witcher Keys at the Eagle and Child pub in St Giles yesterday, where JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis and other literary greats used to meet.
Mr Johnson, who also celebrated his 60th birthday yesterday, will be at WHSmith in Cornmarket Street today at 1pm.
He said: “It is a thrilling and thought-provoking fantasy adventure story set on the North York Moors in the present day.
“It is increasingly being compared to Tolkien’s work, hence the book signing at the Eagle and Child in Oxford.”
The story follows two teenagers as they take on evil goblins and dark elves to save a young life.
