A woman is on trial accused of “punching” a man trying to film a hunt near Faringdon.

Amanda Benson denies assault on January 12 this year, in an alleged altercation with a member of a hunt monitoring group.

Karen Cushing, prosecuting, told Oxford Magistrates’ Court that the 53-year-old assaulted Wayne Foreman while she was taking part in a hunt.

Mr Foreman alleges Benson, of Culkerton, Gloucestershire, hit him twice when he pointed a camera at her.

Yesterday another member of the Berkshire-based hunt monitoring group, Donna Eberhard, said Benson called the group “paedophiles”, for filming teenagers.

She said: “Wayne said to her ‘why are you being so nasty’ or ‘vile’ or something.

“And she said ‘get that camera out of my face’.

The witness then told District Judge Tim Pattinson Benson punched the camera in Mr Foreman’s hand, before punching him in the arm.

When the complainant himself took the stand, he was asked by Tim Hayden, defending, why he had posted pictures of children out hunting on Twitter.

The solicitor said: “Can you not see that continuing to put children’s pictures onto the internet in a hunting context is likely to concern parents?”

Foreman said: “I’m not sure.”

Mr Hayden said: “You don’t like people who hunt, do you Mr Foreman?”

The witness replied: “Not if they’re breaking the law, no.”

The trial continues.
