A WAITER who has worked at the Randolph Hotel is on trial at Oxford Crown Court accused of a string of sex attacks against four women in the Cowley area.

Eric Berki, 28, of Ridgefield Road, Oxford, denies four counts of sexual assault that were reported over eight days in February.

The Hungarian has worked at the Oxford hotel and was also employed at Oxford University’s Lady Margaret Hall.

Ian Hope, prosecuting, said Berki approached his first victim on February 7, two more on February 14, and one more on February 15. The barrister said in all four cases the women were assaulted at around 10.30pm and all gave similar descriptions of the person who grabbed them.

He said that two had picked Berki out of an identification parade, one had given a “qualified” identification, and one had not been able to pick anyone out.

He told the jury: “You have four different women giving evidence of four different incidents. The prosecution will say there are clearly continuing factors between these descriptions.

“There are, of course, differences between them as well.”

But he also admitted a fifth charge had to be dropped when a woman identified Berki as the man who assaulted her, but CCTV showed he was not in the area at the time.

He said the defence would argue that this was evidence of another man, matching the defendant’s description, who had assaulted a woman in Oxford.

The trial continues.
