DARING dads trekked to the top of the tallest mountain in Africa to raise money for a Witney special school.
The fathers returned from their eight-day climb up Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro on Tuesday. Karl Harrison, 48, was one of the group of dads, whose children attend Springfield School.
The team of four have so far raised more than £4,100 for the school so that it can buy mini iPads and a piece of software called Proloquo2go, which allows children to “speak” through the iPad by touching symbols in sequence.
Mr Harrison’s son Ben, 17, is a former student, and his daughter Tia, 14, is still there. Both have severe learning difficulties.
Mr Harrison, of Mill Lane, Eynsham, said: “It was such an amazing experience. It all started with an idea about 18 months ago. I don’t think I trained as much as I probably should have.
“The last push up the mountain was the most challenging. We had been doing about 400 metres a day, but on that last push we had to get up to 1,200 metres.
“The snow was coming down horizontally when we reached the summit and it was minus 10.”
He took on the challenge with Richard Wright, 49, Jan Czernuszak, 53, and Mike Priestnall, 50.
