£12m payout for birth brain damage
10:20am Wednesday 2nd October 2013 in News
A Kidlington family has won a compensation payout worth at least £12m after their son was left brain damaged during his birth.
Yiqun Zhang, the baby son of Oxford research scientist Hongta Zhang, suffered a fractured skull during efforts by doctors to free his head at birth.
The child’s head became stuck during his mother’s 30-hour labour at the Homerton University Hospital in Hackney, London, in 2006.
Last May, the family won a High Court battle to prove negligent treatment was to blame for his disabilities and yesterday a judge approved a settlement to ensure the seven-year-old receives the damages over his lifetime.
