A TEAM leader working for Travelodge in Thame has avoided jail after stealing £18,585 from the hotel chain.
Marc Mather, 27, admitted one count of theft by an employee and was sentenced on Monday at Oxford Crown Court.
Between October 23 last year and May 11 this year he confessed to performing 40 unauthorised refunds into his own bank account.
Rachel Drake, prosecuting, said the company became suspicious and traced the money to Mather’s Co-operative account.
Lance Whiteford, defending, said his client had stolen the money to “impress” his then partner and had already paid back £11,363.26.
Recorder Hodge Malek sentenced Mather, of Northborough Road, Slough, to a year in prison suspended for 24 months.
He also ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work and repay the remaining £7,221.83, plus £200 costs and a £100 victims’ surcharge.
