Ofwat will challenge Thames Water rises
9:30am Monday 16th September 2013 in News
WATER regulator Ofwat is to challenge Thames Water’s plans to increase bills by around eight per cent.
It is examining the organisation’s application to determine whether increases — which would come into force in April 2014 if agreed — are justified.
It is investigating alleged underspending on sewer flooding, a “significant slippage” in its investment programme for sewage treatment, and failing to adequately maintain parts of its wastewater network.
If it finds against Thames Water, which is based in Reading but serves Oxfordshire, it could reduce proposed bills for customers.
