Museum closed after a ‘medical’ drama
9:30am Monday 9th September 2013 in News
SECTIONS of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford remained closed for part of the weekend after a member of staff was injured.
Spokesmen for the museum, in Beaumont Street, refused to say exactly what happened but have ruled out a suicide attempt.
Emergency services were called at 12.18pm on Friday regarding a “concern for the welfare” of a man inside the building. The museum remained closed for the rest of the day.
The incident happened in the main atrium. No-one else is thought to have been involved.
Although the museum reopened on Saturday morning, the central staircase and several galleries were closed until 3pm. A spokesman said: “As it is a matter of the man’s medical history, it is confidential and there is nothing more I can say.”
