Free to run wild in the holidays

YOUNGSTERS had the chance to be wild at heart at a free outdoors activity session in Rock Edge Nature Reserve, Headington.
The session on Wednesday was organised by Oxfordshire-based charity Heart of the Wildwood, which aims to encourage children to engage with their natural surroundings.
Money was raised for the charity at a cake stall and activities included making models out of clay, playing with water and walking around the reserve.
Jake Mackay, seven, from Wheatley, said: “I liked exploring.
“I went blackberry picking and there were lots of places to hide.”
His mother, Jess, 39, said: “There are not many places where kids can just be free, climb up grass banks and explore.”
Forty-five people turned up to the event and organiser Melanie Kinghan said dozens have now signed up for future Saturday sessions.
