Bedroom tax protest in Witney
10:00am Friday 23rd August 2013 in News
Up to 200 people are expected to protest in David Cameron’s constituency tomorrow against the “bedroom tax”.
The Mass Sleep Out will start on Saturday at 1pm on Church Green where they are planning to spend the night in tents.
The group is part of a national campaign to “camp out” in 60 towns and cities to raise awareness of the changes in housing benefit.
Since April 1, housing association tenants cannot get housing benefit to pay for all of their rooms if they are deemed “spare”.
Dan Fearnley, of the protest group Oxford Peoples’ Assembly, said: “I think we could expect between 50 and 200 people as it is Mr Cameron’s constituency.
“We’ve had a lot of support on social medai and websites.”
Mr Cameron was last night unavailble for comment.
