THERE was no better place to launch celebrations for the White Horse Folk Festival than by the Uffington White Horse itself.
Dancers kicked off the weekend’s activities with an open-air show on Saturday morning.
The five Morris dancing sides and one belly dancing group started the spectacle on the hillside before taking the festivities to Wantage town centre and then Grove.
Ian Weeden, from Grove, a member of the Wantage-based Icknield Way Morris Men, said: “We were flying the flag for the Vale of White Horse as the host team. There was general singing and enjoyment. It was a very good atmosphere and we found a nice flat patch close to the horse and the public sat on the hill to watch. It was all very healthy and exhilarating.”
The annual festival has been running since 1997.
