An extension to an immigration centre for new sport and bathroom facilities and a larger mosque has been granted permission.

Cherwell District Council’s planning committee approved the scheme for Campsfield House on Thursday.

The Home Office-funded plans are for a single-storey extension to the sports hall for a fitness room, toilet and shower facility. The existing fitness room will be converted to create a larger mosque.

The Langford Lane facility has 216 spaces – of which 55 per cent are currently Muslim – for housing male detainees pending removal or case resolution.
