A TEENAGE girl has died following an incident at Hinksey Park in Oxford today.

Ambulance staff have confirmed that the teenage girl has been declared dead at the John Radcliffe Hospital after paramedics were called to the South Oxford park just after 1.15pm.

An area of the park near to the pontoon at Hinksey Lake has been cordoned off by police, who were seen examining clothes on a bench near by.

South Central Ambulance spokeswoman Gill Hodgetts said: "We were called to the (South Oxford) Community Centre at 1.7pm following a report that a teenage girl has gone into cardiac arrest.

"Ambulance staff carried out cardinary pulminary resuscitation to resuscitate the girl at the park.

"She was taken by air ambulance at the John Radcliffe Hospital but was declared dead there."

There are no further details yet as to why the girl collapsed or if she was swimming in the lake or was in the park or community centre.

Adults and children near the area are said to look visibly distressed.

Police spokesman Craig Evry said: "At the moment her death is being treated as unexplained and officers are in the process of informing her next of kin."
