THE Ministry of Defence (MoD) has told a soldier leaving the Army that he can stay in his home at RAF Brize Norton with his disabled child until a suitable alternative is found.
Paul Biddiss, 44, a sergeant in the Parachute Regiment, left the forces after 24 years' service. The father-of-five has now begun a career as a private investigator.
He says he told the MoD and the local housing authority a year ago to give them time to find his family a house which would be a suitable replacement.
The family's current home has £65,000 of special adaptations for his 13-year-old son Chandler, who contracted meningitis as a baby, leaving him unable to walk or talk and requiring 24-hour care.
Mr Biddiss said he received a letter from the MoD saying he would have to vacate the property by Thursday.
An MoD spokesperson said: “We are committed to looking after those that have served their country and in certain circumstances will allow individuals who have left the services to stay in Service accommodation for a set period of time.
“West Oxfordshire District Council is currently seeking council accommodation for Mr Biddiss and the MOD will not enforce the possession order while the council is processing Mr Biddiss’s application for a house.”
