THOUSANDS of people are learning about Abingdon’s history, thanks to a teenager who has set up a Facebook page featuring old photographs of the town.

Tom Hutt, 16, who lives on the Tithe Farm estate, set up the Facebook page in February and it has already had almost 3,000 visitors.

And now the former Larkmead School pupil, who is on a vocational studies course at Abingdon and Witney College, is appealing for people to send him old photos.

Tom said: “When I was at school I got a grade D in my GCSE history, but I’ve always had a passion for the subject and a few months ago I thought I would try to share it with people on Facebook.

“I’ve had lots of positive comments and my parents, Alan and Kirsty, and my sister Jess, who is 18, are proud of what I have done.”

Tom said he sourced most of the photos for the Facebook page called Old Abingdon from books.

When he is not researching old pictures of his home town, he is working in Poundland in the Bury Street precinct, playing video games or watching movies set in medieval times.
