OXFORD Brookes University has shot up 13 places in The Guardian’s league table of universities.

The Headington-based university now finds itself in 35th place out of the 119 institutions on the list.

In last year’s list Brookes was in 48th place while the year before that it came in at 42nd.

According to The Guardian’s university guide, Brookes is “consistently rated as one of the best of the newer universities” and says it offers “outstanding” teaching.

It goes on to say: “Brookes’ links in the region mean great opportunities for work placements across all areas, from publishing and healthcare to environmental agencies and Formula One.”

Cambridge topped the table with Oxford University second and the London School of Economic rounding off the top three.

The guide’s compilers said Cambridge remains ahead largely because its students are happy with the feedback and assessment they receive and because of better career prospects But they said Oxford fares better on the “value added” score, meaning its teaching seems to have a bigger impact.
