TWO teenagers responsible for a spate of Oxfordshire burglaries last year have been deprived of their liberty.

Cheyenne Webb and Reece Tickell, both 18, targeted homes across the county in a “highly-planned” series of break-ins which netted thousands of pounds of goods.

Among the property taken during May and June were an antique spear and sword, laptops, car and house keys, bank cards, designer sunglasses and iPhones.

Webb, of Marjoram Close, Blackbird Leys, Oxford, was said to have planned the spree. He pleaded guilty to seven burglaries, one attempted burglary and one theft.

He also asked for a further nine burglaries to be taken into consideration when he was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court last week.

Tickell, of Ashmole Place, Blackbird Leys, was described as a “very willing recruit” and admitted taking part in three burglaries.

Passing sentence, Judge Patrick Eccles said there could be other people involved in the break-ins who had not yet been caught.

He told Webb and Tickell: “This was a highly-planned campaign of night-time burglaries which took place across south Oxfordshire. They were planned by you Webb, and you Tickell were a very willing recruit.

“Not one of you had any thought for the welfare of the people whose homes you invaded. You had no regard for their anxiety and left them worried about their privacy and safety.”

Judge Eccles sent both defendants to young offenders’ institutions – Webb for 32 months and Tickell for 18 months.

Benjamin Long, defending, said his clients had only targeted goods they could sell and had not caused any damage or taken anything of particular sentimental value.

Also sentenced for handling stolen property were 18-year-old Abdulla Saeed, of Dodgson Road, Oxford, and 28-year-old Agron Nuzi, of Shepherds Hill, Oxford.

Saeed was caught with three stolen sat navs. He received a community order with six months’ supervision.

Nuzi had two laptop computers, an iPhone, an Apple computer and a TV stolen from an Oxford property. He was fined £1,000 and told to pay £500 towards costs.

‘IT’S HORRIBLE. YOU JUST DON’T FEEL SAFE’

Wheatley resident Stephanie Pilling, 19, and her family were asleep when Webb burgled their house on June 18 and drove away with their car.

The Pillings also had a laptop, an antique sword, an antique spear and house keys stolen.
She said: “My mum heard the car drive off at about three in the morning and assumed it was my dad driving a friend home.

“She soon realised he wasn’t awake though.

“It’s horrible, you just don’t feel safe. Your house is your personal place.”

Another victim, who does not wish to be named, told how Webb broke in to their home in Bedford Street, Oxford, on June 12, stole four laptops and nearly destroyed a car.

Two family members were asleep upstairs while another was listening to music through headphones.

The burglars came through the front door and found the laptops in the front room. They also took a handbag with car keys in it.

They took the car but crashed it at the bottom of the road.

The victim added: “I saw them the day before the burglary. They were obviously going up and down the road checking what was in the front rooms.”
