THE mother of a two-year-old girl found dead at a home in Bicester today is thought to have left the country.

Detectives said they were trying to trace the woman as they attempt to discover how the little girl died.

Police were called to the house in Herald Way, Glory Farm, at 10am by a relative of the little girl who was worried about her safety, a police spokeswoman said.

Tonight Det Ch Insp Ian Hunter said: “We believe the child was in the care of her mother at the time of her death and officers are currently trying to trace her whereabouts.

"At this time she is thought to have left the United Kingdom.

“We need to speak to the mother to establish the circumstances prior to the discovery of the child’s body.”

Police have not released any further details as to which country the mother may have gone to or who the relative is.

Police are only saying at the moment they are treating it as an "unexplained death".

A post mortem examination is being carried out tonight to try to determine the cause of the little girl's death.

Neighbours have said the occupant of the house is known as Angela and is believed to be in her 30s or 40s.

The electoral roll lists the occupant of the house as an Angela Whitworth.
