The dreams of a seven-year-old girl, suffering from a rare terminal illness, came true on Tuesday, when Harry Styles from One Direction sent her a personal video message.

Brooke Cornwell, of Breakspeare Close, Watford, was "thrilled to bits", when she saw the greeting wishing her "lots of love" from the pop heartthrob.

Amber Cornwell, Brooke’s mother, said: "My friend Ray’s brother Darren works in the music industry and was able to get us tickets to see One Direction in concert today (Friday).

"Then another friend, Hollie Clarke contacted One Direction’s management asking if Brooke would be able to meet the band backstage after the show.

"Unfortunately she couldn’t because of security issues, but instead Brooke was sent a personalised message from Harry, her favourite band member.

"When she saw the message, she was thrilled to bits, she actually burst into tears and sobbed.

"It was a huge deal for her, her whole bedroom is decorated with One Direction memorabilia; she’s got the curtains and the duvet cover.

"We can’t thank our friends Hollie and Darren enough, nor One Direction and Harry. It’s really made her year."

Harry said in the message: "Hi Brooke, heard you’re a big fan and that you’re coming to the show.

"Wanted to send you lots of love and I’ll see you Friday."

Brooke is one of just 125 people across the UK who has Diamond Blackfan Anaemia, a disorder which means her bone marrow cannot produce enough red blood cells to carry oxygen around her body.

Since her diagnosis she has featured regularly in the Watford Observer, as her parents have fought tirelessly to raise awareness of the condition.
