SEVEN-year-old Eden Strickland-Bennett summoned up all her concentration to work out the next tactical move at a holiday chess club.
And it paid off as she won two of her five games during the training session at Oxford’s St Giles’ Church on Wednesday.
Eden said: “I started to play chess at home and I’m learning the tactics.
“I like chess because you can play against your friends when you go round their houses.”
Mum Theresa Strickland-Bennett, from Abingdon, said: “She normally enjoys it and has fun. She is very keen, so that helps.”
The session was one of three this week organised during the school holidays by David Longrigg, the lay minister at St Giles’ Church, and Rod Nixon, who is a member of the congregation.
Chess player Phoenix Sremcevic, 13, from Oxford, said: “I think it’s brilliant that there is free tuition and Rod and David have helped me develop my tactics.”
