Power to 1,000 homes cut

More than 1,000 homes in Summertown were hit by a power cut yesterday.

The cut at 10am initially affected 1,024 homes but was restored to about half within 20 minutes.

Southern Electric Power Distribution said a fault in the underground network caused the problem.

Mobile generators were brought in and power was due to be restored to the remaining homes by the early evening.

He said: “We would like to apologise to customers affected.”

He said an investigation will be launched to find the cause of the fault.
