PUPILS seasoned their food technology education with a little healthy competition in an interschool contest in Abingdon.
Five students from John Mason School and one from Fitzharrys battled it out to impress one of Abingdon’s top chefs, Broad Face owner Michael Riemenschneider.
Each contestant cooked a two-course meal of their choosing to impress the Swiss chef and Abingdon mayor Monica Lovatt at John Mason School last Thursday. Taking the top prize was 14-year-old Beatie Kirkby from John Mason School, whose winning dessert – a chocolate jaffa pudding – will go on the Broad Face menu for two weeks.
Mr Riemenschneider said: “The pudding was absolutely to-die-for, it was self-saucing, and she didn’t have any help from anyone.”
The competition was organised by John Mason food technology teacher Lisa Butcher, to boost the profile of her subject.
She said: “It was really pleased, the students did so well, and it brought the two schools together.”
