Pair aim to put Wantage on visitors' maps

WANTAGE has two new co-ordinators who are hoping to put it on the map.

Iain Nicholson and Mim Norvell will be responsible for promoting the town to visitors, making commercial use of empty shops and boosting tourism.

The pair have a one-year contract with Vale of White Horse District Council.

Ms Norvell, 40, said: “I absolutely love living in Wantage, so I’m really pleased to be able to work on such positive projects for the town.

“These are challenging times for local economies but we have much to be proud of – some great independent shops, pubs and restaurants, an interesting mix of events, rich history and a strong sense of community spirit.”

Ms Norvell is planning to revamp the map used on town centre noticeboards.

She will enlist a graphic designer to fill the black-and-white schematic with colourful artist’s impressions of local landmarks and businesses.

Mr Nicholson will be specifically tasked with trying to attract new businesses to the town centre.

He is writing a prospectus, creating a promotional campaign for the town and working with landlords and agents.
