George, 11, takes on triathlon test

GEORGE Leys made a New Year’s resolution to raise cash for good causes and he is certainly sticking to it.

Tomorrow, the 11-year-old will complete a triathlon challenge he set for himself to raise money as part of Red Nose Day.

The Langford Village School pupil will run about 2.5 miles from his home at Langford Village to Bicester Sports Centre, in Queens Avenue, where he will swim 20 lengths, then hop on his bicycle to cycle about five miles back home via the Bicester ringroad.

So far he has raised almost £600.

George said: “I just feel that it’s the right thing to do to help people who are not as lucky as me. We take too much for granted and it’s my way of helping.”

Mum Vicky, a police officer at Bicester Police Station, said: “I’m exceptionally proud of him because it was all his own doing.”

George is no stranger to fundraising. He previously sold his old toys to raise about £200 for the special care baby unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, and teamed up with school friends to make and sell bookmarks in aid of the same charity.
