Antonia Bance joins Joe McManners in standing down from Oxford City Council

Labour politicians Joe McManners and Antonia Bance have resigned their seats on Oxford City Council.

The resignation of the two stalwarts has been timed to allow by-elections to be held on the same day as county council elections on May 2.

Churchill councillor Dr McManners, a GP and former executive member for housing, has been forced to stand aside because he is due to serve on the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Board, and cannot hold both roles.

Ms Bance, who has represented Rose Hill and Iffley since 2006, said she wanted to focus on her job as campaigns director for the charity Shelter.

This is just the chance for the Conservatives to get in and prove that they can win seats in the city.

As Hyacinth Bucket says above, an ideal opportunity for David Cameron's neo-Republican party to swing back in Oxford, and get rid of all thosr horrid people on benefits - such as the well-off who still abusr bud passes, winter fuel allowance, state pension and, of coursr, the national health service. Nor should we continue pumping money into trying to reduce the terrible levels of child poverty and deprivation across Oxford, nor provide help and support for the elderley - though I'm sure Mrs Bucket doesn't live in or know that part of the City. Dream on Hovis!

My apologies for bad spelling again! Think I might try the Internet for a new cordless keyboard - this one from PC thingie is about as useful as George Osborne's failing economic policies - the Tories can't seem to 'hit the right keys' either, Mrs Hovis!
