Didcot A to shut down in just two weeks' time

Didcot A power station could stop generating power on March 22.

Although staff and equipment will remain on site until the end of the month, RWE npower has announced the station, famous for its large chimneys, could cease to operate earlier.

By law, Didcot A is only allowed to generate power for 20,000 hours, and if it continues to constantly operate, it will reach its limit on March 22 at 2pm.

It will then formally close on March 31.

Shoddie reporting Freddie, Didcot A only has one chimney and six cooling towers, so please try to get correct. The one tall chimney has 4 separate independent flue's within it. Each flue serves its own boiler within the taller part of the main building, the shorter part of the main building being the turbine hall.

A sad day for the station, I was there as an apprentice when the first turbine ran and there again the first time it went live onto the grid. Its had its problems over the years but has served the nation well. The big worry is what is there to replace it, in a word, nothing, and the nimbys continue to object to replacements being built. Invest in candles, because you are going to need them.

We would and could but governments do not want to commit themselves to infrastructure to support the country.
A number of new stations built from British built components and using British labour would be a much needed boost to the economy and jobs market, people paying tax and N I contributions into the pot rather than taking money out of it. HELLO CAMERON, ARE YOU LISTENING IF SO CLIMB DOWN OFF THE FENCE AND DO SOMETHING RATHER THAN LET OVER SEAS COMPANIES TAKE US TO THE CLEANERS EVERY MONTH/QUARTER ON OUR BILLS WHICH SUBSIDISE THEIR HOME MARKET PRICES.
