Law students are left in limbo

A LAW course at Oxford Brookes University is closing.

The university is shutting its Legal Practice Course (LPC) this summer due to a declining number of applications, and no further courses are planned from September.

Twelve staff who teach on the course could lose their jobs if they are not redeployed.

While full-time students on the LPC will be able to finish their one-year course in June, the future is uncertain for students on a two-year course, due to finish next year.

Prof Meryll Dean, head of the university’s School of Law, said: “Unfortunately, a steady decline in applications over the past five years has meant that the programme is no longer tenable.”
