Bump-start to Comic Relief fundraising

COMIC Relief fever is hitting Oxfordshire ahead of Red Nose Day on Friday, March 15.
The county is already raising money, with events such as baby bump painting, parties and performances.
Gita Konschak, from Risinghurst, has kick-started her fundraising campaign painting the bumps of mums-to-be.
The 52-year-old is hoping to beat her 2011 total of £1,392 raised by her and five mums.
Ms Konschak said: “As a team of 50 baby bump painters nationally we have already raised £2,097 which, considering Red Nose Day is next week, is fantastic.
“Last weekend was the first time I went to a maternity ward to paint. I’ll be doing it over most of March.”
She painted two cats on the baby bump of 28-year-old Kidlington mum Emily Baylie who on Friday gave birth to Theo at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital.
Ms Baylie said: “When I found out about the bumpathon for charity and Gita was available I jumped at the chance. We had a lovely afternoon.
“I raised more than £100 from generous friends and family. I love the design of my two cats.
“And it put a smile on the faces of the midwives who are working hard.”
Ms Baylie’s due date was after March 15, but she gave birth prematurely after developing pre-eclampsia.
Kirsty Prowse from Blackbird Leys, Oxford, is also gearing up to raise cash.
The 20-year-old TK Maxx sales assistant is throwing a party at the Cowley Conservative Club in Between Towns Road on Friday from 7pm.
Six bands, including Half Decent, Ioneye and Platform Location, are performing for free and all ticket sale proceeds go to Comic Relief.
She spread the word by walking 5km in a red onesie at University Parks on Monday, adding: “It is really exciting. It is for good causes both in Oxford and overseas in places like Africa.”
Meanwhile national Rock Choir is in Oxford’s Bonn Square for a flashmob performance today. At 12.30pm, the group of up to 100 will emerge with red noses to sing classic hits with a twist.
