Museum visitors pin hopes on rare opportunity

MUSEUM artefacts not normally on show to the public are available to see on a special behind-the-scenes tour.
The Oxford University Museum of Natural History is running the monthly tours during its closure this year while repairs are taking place on its roof.
Visitors on the entomology tour will be able to see some of the museum’s five million specimen-strong insect collection, including the oldest pinned insect in the world – a Bath white butterfly which was captured in Cambridgeshire in 1702.
Darren Mann, the assistant curator in entomology, said: “While we are closed we thought people should know there are still things happening behind the scenes.
“We thought this is a great opportunity to try this out.”
Other departments running tours include mineralogy, geology and zoology.
