POLICE have today said about 20 people were involved in the fight that started in an Oxford pub yesterday.

Trouble erupted inside the Nelson in Between Towns Road at around 4.20pm.

Suspects were tracked by the police helicopter and six officers were sent to the scene, police said today as they appealed for witnesses.

A 31-year-old was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital with head injuries but was later discharged.

Two men, aged 31, from Oxford, have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and are currently in custody.

Such was the scale of violence which included a smashed window the owners closed the premises yesterday evening while officers carried out an investigation.

Det Sgt Simon Hannam said: “This was a large fight which took place in the late afternoon in what is essentially a busy commercial and residential area.

“We would urge anyone who may have been in the pub and witnessed the disorder or if anyone saw anything outside the pub at that time then we would like to hear from them.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
