THE owner of Didcot A Power Station is holding two exhibitions about its deconstruction – brick by brick.

RWE npower is inviting locals to find out more about what will happen at the site in the coming years, following the September announcement that the plant will close at the end of March.

In the decommissioning process, which will take around six months, the plant will be stripped of all machinery. The deconstruction which follows is expected to take two or three years.

Npower spokesman Freyja Moorhead said: “It is looking like it will be taken down the same way it was put up – brick by brick.”

The two exhibitions will be held at Didcot Civic Hall next Wednesday, 11am to 3pm, and Thursday, 4pm until 8pm.

Npower staff will be on hand to answer questions about Didcot A and the future of the gas-fired Didcot B station, which will remain.

Didcot A manager Phil Noake said: “This is an important time in Didcot’s history and we are keen to invite the public along to learn more about the next steps for Didcot A.”

In 2008, Didcot A opted out of the European Union’s Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD), regulation aimed at reducing emissions.
