YOUNG people in politics, gay marriage and climate change were among issues politicians were grilled on at a school’s Question Time-style event.

Oxford East Labour MP Andrew Smith joined Oxford West and Abingdon Conservative MP Nicola Blackwood at The Cherwell School, North Oxford on Friday.

Oxford City Council Liberal Democrat leader Jean Fooks, the UK Independence Party’s Harry Aldridge and Green MEP Keith Taylor made up the panel.

Two sessions were held at the school to give youngsters the chance to quiz the panel.

Mr Smith said: “There were really good questions.

“It is very important that young people are encouraged to take an intelligent and active interest not just in politics but current affairs generally.”
