Apprentice contestant gives children food for thought

SCHOOL pupils were given personal business tuition from a former contestant on hit BBC show The Apprentice.

Entrepreneur Nick Holzherr, who came third in series eight of the BBC television show, now runs his own company Whisk, creating iPhone apps.

He visited King Alfred’s school in Wantage this week and gave three talks to the school’s careers convention.

But he also found time to sit down and share some of his insights in a more personal setting with some of the pupils.

Amazon Gilpin, 14, said: “Nick’s talk was inspirational. He also told us that the show is not staged and Sir Alan Sugar really is scary.

“Nick was my mum’s favourite.”

Mr Holzherr, who grew up in Switzerland, got through to the final of last year’s Apprentice but failed to convince Lord Sugar his Whisk iPhone app was a business brainwave.

The app converts any recipe on the internet into a shopping list, to make it easier to find and buy ingredients for any dish.

Ryan Haynes, 16, said: “The chance to talk to employers at the careers convention was very useful, and what Nick said gave me food for thought about planning for my future career.”

Other exhibitors at the careers convention included the Army, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Glasgow University.
