School board sacking decision due ‘within weeks’

A DECISION is expected within weeks over proposals to sack a school’s board of governors.

Oxfordshire County Council is still waiting to hear from the Government after it applied to replace Bicester Community College’s board of governors with an interim board.

The Department for Education will effectively make the decision to replace the board. The move comes after the school was put into special measures following a damning Ofsted report.

So far, the governing body, which is chaired by Roger Dyson has yet to comment.

In the Ofsted report the board was criticised for failing to act quickly enough to improve the quality of teaching and achievement of pupils since the last inspection in 2010.

The Oxford Mail contacted Mr Dyson, but he was unavailable to comment.

Council spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: “The council is waiting to hear back from the Department for Education regarding the council’s application for an Interim Executive Board for Bicester Community College.

“The council is expecting to hear back from the Government in the coming weeks. The Department for Education is the body which decides on replacing governing bodies.”

The school was rated level four, the worst possible rating, at all levels including pupils’ achievement, quality of teaching, behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

School principal Jason Clarke has pledged to “secure the best” for students.
