Woman put on make-up while driving
11:00am Friday 8th February 2013 in News
The police operation
A DRIVER was caught applying make-up while driving with no hands on the wheel yesterday.
The woman was fined and given three penalty points as part of a two-hour operation carried out by police in Botley Road, Oxford.
Officers from Abingdon traffic unit were stationed at the old Halfords store at 8.10am. They also caught 22 motorists – on average one every five and a half minutes – using mobile phones. And a further 17 were spotted not wearing seat belts.
Two vehicles had no road tax, one had no MOT, one was seized as the driver had no licence, and three people were fined for excessively tinted front windows. All those caught were fined £60.
Pc Mark Pilling, Oxfordshire Road Safety Enforcement Officer, said: “Some people might think that the slow speeds are an excuse for committing these type of offences, but there is no excuse.”

Excellent work, this morning on my motorbike while overtaking a Volvo driver on the A40 coming into town at approx 7.40am he was driving in the middle of the road with an iPad on his lap tapping away.
If only i had a gun.
Waste of an iPad really. ;)
Truth is, the drivers who crash hard are the ones chatting with their mates whilst navigating country lanes or back streets, before losing control and hitting a tree, or in the case of Manchester last night, other vehicles - with deadly consequences.

I don't get this tinted windows thing. Whenever I travel to any country near the equator all the cars have heavily tinted windows to offer protection from the year round blazing sun, without any visibility problems day or night. Is it just that the police want to be able to spy on you in your car, that you can't have them here?

Look out for the Red Hyundai taxi on the Garsington roundabout in the morning - around 8am... Three children sitting in the back.
The driver has an unusual interpretation of lane markings, and always crosses the hatchings at the top of the Westbound bypass entry heading straight for the 2nd lane. The traffic on the bypass usually gives way with much flashing of headlights.

this sort of thing isn't done often enough, in my opinion. every day i see many drivers using phones, reading delivery notes, applying make-up, shaving, using laptops/ipads etc. part of the problem is the law itself. £60 and 3 points isn't enough deterrent unfortunately. there should be a MINIMUM of a 6 month ban, and much higher if the use of a phone causes an incident. too many people don't wear seatbelts either, and i recently saw a van with 3 passengers who were belted, and a young child kneeling on the cab floor!
ke up first offence £500 plus 6 points, mandatory, no attending courses, second offence if similar conviction then £2500 plus a ban of six months and retake your driving test in full.
If you're not paying attention to the road and all of it's users then leave it to the rest of us to enjoy and take the bus.

I saw the driver lighting her fag and the head was facing down for about 4sec or more why trying to light up she came over onto our side of the road but lucky as i noticed and moved over in time but with us doing 55mph and she was doing the 50 plus it could of been a different story.
Why is there laws against mobile phones and eating drinking, list long But smoking is ok why driving.

Can I say me and my boy was nearly wiped out on the a40 from oxford to freelands.

Yet here we are only allowed 25% on the windscreen and 30% on the front side windows, and you can legally have 80% tint on the rear windscreen, and still be able to see out of your rear view mirror. So it can't be about driver visibility, it must be about the police being able to see if you are using your phone, or not wearing a seatbelt. I don't mind silly laws, what I do mind is being lied to about why they are in force.
