MEMORIES of residents in Witney will inspire a new piece of public art at a surgery in the town.

The mosaic, which was created by Stonesfield artist Lindsey Thompson, will be installed on the outside wall of Cogges Surgery.

She has been gathering ideas from the community by visiting the seniors group at Cogges Church Centre, The Blake Primary School, and Cogges Pre-School, where she worked with children during a mosaic workshop.

A Book of Memories is also available at the surgery, in Cogges Hill Road, for people to add their memories, thoughts and feelings about the area.

Designs for the mosaic will go on display at the surgery in March and a community workshop will be held in April for people to have a go at mosaic-making. As well as depictions of Cogges, the mosaic will include small items such as buttons, jewellery and stones donated by residents.

Money from developer contributions to West Oxfordshire District Council for public art is paying for the project.

Dr Hallett said: “We’re a local practice and wanted to do something for the community, that everyone could be involved in from the beginning.

“We’re delighted that so many local people, of all different ages, are getting involved and it will be very exciting to see the designs.”

A display with information about the project has been put up at the surgery. Alternatively, call the council’s leisure team on 01993 861080.
